Advantages:
- Polyethylene handholes will not crack or break in cold weather.
- Lightweight and very easy to handle and install by one person.
- Round configuration is easier to square holes during drilling process.
- Extend life of drill bits and save labor due to material being easier to drill through.
- Taper of barrel is smaller at top versus bottom prevents frost upheaval.
- Round configuration will not allow cover to fall into handhole base as other configurations would do.
Serve important functions:
- Drainage for conduit system
- Provides a protective enclosure for bending the conduit without damaging wires
- Provides access to the system
- Is listed on the approved product list (APL) for signals in both Wisconsin and Minnesota
- A junction for conduit coming from different directions
- Creates the ability to pull wires over long distances
- Polyethylene handholes will not crack or chip regardless of temperature
- Handholes are easily repaired if damaged by plows or mowers
- These handhole/pullbox units are made with only nonconductive material for safety reasons
Installation Procedures:
- Place handhole, frame and cover on bed of tamped coarse aggregate for drainage.
- Remove Cover and insert 2, 2″ x 4″ boards into handhole and crisscross them inside barrel as high in barrel as possible to support round shape during backfilling.
- Tamp fill material evenly around barrel with cover on barrel.
- If extension is not required then screw 6 stainless steel screws through frame collar located on lower portion of frame to inside wall of barrel and replace cover.
- If extension is required then insert extension into barrel and replace frame and cover and complete tamping around extension.
- Remove cover and place 6 stainless steel screws through lower portion of frame into extension and replace cover and to top of frame and cover.
